The 2007 Achieving the Dream Strategy Institute held in snowy Albuquerque, NM, brought together more than 630 people representing 58 institutions from nine states, as well as partners, funders and guests.

The institute offered participants the opportunity to attend keynote, plenary and focus sessions on areas such as data-driven inquiry and decision making, student success strategies, culture and retention and institutional transformation. For the first time, concurrent sessions featured presentations by many college teams as well as invited external experts. Topics included developmental education, gatekeeper courses, first year experience, learning communities, advising, student support services, tutoring and supplemental education, K-14 strategies, community engagement and improved use of data. Evaluation workshops and Team meetings, cross-team talk, and informal networking provided opportunities for participants to collaborate and learn from one another. Keynoter Iris Prettypaint, the Cedar Lodge Drummers from Gallup, NM, and Albuquerque-based mariachi musicians offered everyone a taste of Native American and New Mexico culture.
