Springfield Technical Community College Profile
Background
Springfield Technical Community College is the only technical community college in Massachusetts, offering 86 degree and certificate programs, many of which lead to careers in technical fields of health, engineering technologies, and business. STCC also offers solid transfer preparation in math, sciences and engineering, liberal arts, and business. The college serves more than 8,000 credit students annually, as well as 4,400 students in professional development credit-free classes.
STCC’s student body, diverse in age, educational background and cultural heritage, includes nearly 34 percent minority students. Located on a National Historic Site in the center of the state’s third largest city, STCC serves the area’s urban population, and also draws students from surrounding counties and states to its sophisticated career programs. Courses are offered days, evenings, and online.
Achieving the Dream Goals
Springfield Technical Community College’s goal is to effectively use data to identify practices that will help to close achievement gaps and enhance student outcomes. STCC plans to use data to implement programs that will improve persistence and graduation rates. During the first year of the initiative, the college plans to:
Deepen institutional commitment and increase institutional capacity to improve the education success of the diverse and disadvantaged student population
Proactively use data in institutional decision-making that will help students succeed
Improve institutional research infrastructure in order to meet the expectations of accreditation
Design a comprehensive incoming student assessment program that begins with effective collection and analysis of student learning profile data
Rigorous and improved data analysis will serve as a catalyst for institutional change that will enhance student learning and success.
