Jackson Community College Profile

Background
Jackson Community College is a two-year college located in Jackson, Michigan. JCC serves the greater Jackson area in south central Michigan, which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation as manufacturing jobs tied to the automotive industry have become increasingly scarce in recent years.
JCC’s strategic plan is focused on increasing student access, success, and diversity. The college’s student success initiatives include support for the Foundation Studies department, which offers additional support for students in developmental classes; and the Center for Student Success which offers student services such as tutoring, a drop-in learning lab, a Writing Center, workshops, accommodations for disabled students, academic advising, social worker services and special events. JCC offers courses and programs in the liberal arts, sciences, math, and vocational education in order to help students transfer to a four-year college or enter the workforce.
Achieving the Dream Goals
Jackson Community College’s goal is to effectively use data to implement programs and policies that will improve student success rates. During its first year in Achieving the Dream, the college plans to:
- Increase staffing in the Office of Institutional Research in order to advance current data analysis capabilities
- Connect with local high schools in order to align expectations between pre- and post-secondary education
- Incorporate the goals and values of Achieving the Dream to help meet accreditation standards
Jackson Community College is committed to helping students see beyond the dismal local economy. The college is dedicated to helping all students reach their academic and career goals.
