College Profiles

Lake Michigan College

Lake Michigan College is a community college with four campuses in the southwest corner of Michigan. Over 7,000 full and part time students attend LMC each year. Of the first time college students at LMC, two thirds require developmental education. Nearly 60 percent are first generation and/or Pell-eligible.  The College offers associate degrees and certificates which prepare students for transfer to four-year colleges, to enter the workforce, or to upgrade their current job skills. To assist students in meeting their goals, LMC employs academic assessment and placement, a freshman seminar program, and intensive advising for at-risk students.

Achieving the Dream Goals

One of LMC’s goals is to effectively analyze data in order to identify the most successful strategies to help students succeed.  During the first year of its participation in the initiative, the College plans to:

  • Use data to examine current programs and services in order to create effective changes that will enhance student outcomes
  • Identify new strategies for effective developmental education curriculum
  • Incorporate Achieving the Dream goals and values in the accreditation self-study for the Higher Learning Commission

Through rigorous data analysis and institutional transformation, LMC expects to improve the level of student success.  The College is committed to leveraging the necessary resources to make effective change happen.
