Background
Lee College, in Baytown, Texas, was established in 1934 to provide high quality education to local students at a minimal cost. Today, the college enrolls more than 12,000 students and offers certificate and degree programs preparing students to continue their studies at a four-year institution or to enter the workforce. Lee College also provides a broad-based program of extension courses, distance education, adult education, continuing education and community service.
Lee College provides learning opportunities and experiences to allow each student to excel in an ever-changing environment. The college is an integral part of the community. This collaboration with the community encompasses supplying a trained workforce as well as contributing to economic development through partnerships with business and industry, government, and economic development entities.
Achieving the Dream Goals
Lee college’s goal is to improve student outcomes in key areas such as developmental and gatekeeper courses for a student population that is becoming increasingly diverse. The college has established the following priorities:
- Improve student success in gatekeeper courses
- Improve success in specific developmental courses
- Increase usage of student support services
- Improve student success as a result of faculty professional development
To achieve these goals, Lee College will provide supplemental instruction for specific gatekeeper courses, provide linked classes for specific developmental courses, provide improved information delivery systems, and provide faculty and staff professional development covering new methodologies and best practices at our culturally diverse institution.
