Background
Renton Technical College, in Renton, Wash., provides career training or retraining for persons seeking marketable job skills or upgrading current skills. Specialized programs allow students with or without high school credentials to enter at numerous times, progress in accordance with individual aptitudes, and complete affordable training, making job entry and success possible. Training at Renton Technical College is affordable and relevant. Students are provided with skills and concepts essential for seeking, gaining and holding a job. Mathematical, scientific, communication and human relations skills are integrated into practical instruction. The College monitors and responds to the needs of the local workforce through the guidance of program advisory committees, comprised of both management and labor.
Achieving the Dream Goals
Through Achieving the Dream, Renton Technical College aims to better serve its diverse student population by developing a Culture of Evidence that allows for ongoing student success improvement strategies. The college has identified the following priorities:
- Increase retention and academic success rates of students in the first quarter
- Decrease differential rates of success among ethnic/racial groups
- Improve data collection and analysis
The College has developed a strategic plan, which is fundamentally concerned with the allocation of resources toward the achievement of institutional goals, including student success. Our Achieving the Dream efforts will become part of our policies and practices.
