Mary Frances Gibbons served as full-time English faculty at Richland College in Dallas, Texas. In 2000, she was selected as the faculty representative on the college leadership team as Richland prepared for its SACS reaffirmation of accreditation. When Richland was named one of the eight pilot institutions for SACS’ new process, she assumed the duties of Quality Enhancement Plan Faculty Liaison. In this new role, she worked with both faculty and staff as they sought to enhance the Richland College experience for students. She assisted faculty as they have improved their student in-course retention rate by more than 5%. She helped staff as they thought of new ways they could better serve students. In addition, she has also assisted faculty in assessing student-learning outcomes as they determine improvements that help students better achieve their educational goals. She believes that helping faculty focus on both their teaching and their students’ learning is most rewarding.
