Michael Poindexter is Vice President for Student Affairs at the Community College of Rhode Island.  With more than 22 years of administrative experience, he has served in both two-year and four-year colleges and has a distinguished career supporting students. At the Community College of Denver, he engineered an enrollment shift that saw high school graduate and minority student enrollment reach 50 percent of the total population and minority student retention reach a par with the overall student population.  The City of Denver has recognized his leadership and civic involvement and the mayor proclaimed November 30, 2000, as Michael Poindexter Day.  In 2004, students at Kingsborough Community College honored him with a “Pursuit of Excellence Award.”  Michael served as a panelist/ consultant for several PBS videoconferences on retention and campus civility and continues to serve as a senior consultant for Noel Levitz, one of the largest educational consulting companies in the world.  He has been named as an Outstanding Young Men of America, and the College Board and United Negro College Fund have recognized him for his service.  His motto is “Students Come First.”  He holds a M.Ed. in college student personnel services from the University of Northern Iowa.
