Inside Higher Ed Reports on How Community Colleges Can Reach Obama's Goals

Leaders at one of the partner organizations in Achieving the Dream, Davis Jenkins and Thomas Bailey at the Community College Research Center at Columbia University’s Teachers College, point out that for President Obama to reach his goal of an additional five million community college graduates by 2020, enrollment increases won’t be enough. We have to focus on a variety of pathways to student success.

The use of data, a cornerstone of Achieving the Dream, is prime among them: “A growing movement among community colleges nationally, led by initiatives such as Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count, emphasizes the importance of using data on student progression to continuously align and improve programs and services to support student success,” they write.
