Sharing a wealth of knowledge through meaningful metrics and successful student initiatives.
With nearly half of all higher education students enrolled at community colleges, America cannot close its skills-gap without a concerted effort to increase both community college success and completion rates. Many institutions of higher education have measurably raised student achievement and retention. Achieving the Dream documents their promising practices and disseminates their lessons to enable innovation at more institutions, and to project a stronger, more forceful voice on the impact of community college reform.
"Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much." —Helen Keller
In support of educators, administrators, policymakers, and funders associated with institutions of higher education, Achieving the Dream conducts and makes available original research on success strategies and meaningful metrics. We believe in sharing knowledge to:
- Demonstrate the value of evidence-based decision-making
- Benchmark colleges’ performance based on student outcomes
- Provide access to research on institutional policies and practices that improve student outcomes
- Illustrate Achieving the Dream’s institutional change process and its applicability to other colleges
We also support strategies that work to spread the reach of effective practices, like the Texas Peer Coaching Initiative where we awarded grants to Texas Leader Colleges that embraced our model for better student and community college outcomes. By partnering with other colleges the Texas Leader Colleges were able to spread the reach of effective practices. By developing new knowledge through collaborations, we identify next-generation challenges and explore solutions to stimulate innovative thinking and create continued momentum for change.
