Developmental Math

To increase persistence and completion rates in math courses, the Math Department replaced the former three-level remedial sequence with a two-level non-STEM pathway, adding a third pre-STEM transition course for students pursuing STEM fields.  Now fully implemented, this curricular overhaul has eliminated one full level within the pre-college math curriculum for all non-STEM students, shrinking the time investment by one academic term for the majority of students served.  At the same time, the faculty revised the contents of the pre-college courses, with the goal of increasing their relevance, application, and interest.  Furthermore, study skills and affective barriers to learning are addressed directly in the pre-college courses. This intervention is fully scaled up.
