Blended Writing Course

Based on the Accelerated Learning Program model, developmental writers co-enroll in college-level ENG 131 and developmental ENG 091 with the same instructor.  Students are able to complete both levels of writing in the same semester. Using this model, 100% of developmental writers enroll in college writing, and succeed at the same rate as those who place into college-level.  The baseline and comparative data for the traditional developmental model shows that only about half of any cohort pass college writing within 4 semesters.  The blended writing students complete the second level of college-writing at the same rate as college-level writers, about 35%, compared to 10% of the traditional developmental writers.  Additionally, male students, African-American students, and Pell students all succeed at higher rates in the blended course model compared to the traditional format. 

We are now fully scaled and have stopped offering any stand-alone traditional sections of developmental writing.  We have expanding the instructor training and have opened our ALP sections to students who may also taking our college reading course.
