Developmental Education Curriculum Revision & Restructure

To better serve our incoming students with developmental needs, a review of the developmental curriculum and institutional structure were needed in order to determine whether the developmental areas reflect recognized best practices. The developmental areas are defined as courses or services provided for the purpose of helping underprepared college students attain their academic goals.

In fall 2010, the college created a separate department of College Readiness, with all the developmental courses going under it. In fall 2015, the developmental math faculty made modifications to the math curriculum, offering students with different pathways/options in terms of STEM vs NON STEM paths. The english department also now offers some accelerated options for developmental reading and writing students - a new combined higher level reading/writing course, and a co-requisite course based on the integrated developmental ALP model.
