Integrated Planning and Advising for Student Success

Through an ATD/Educause IPASS Grant, DACC implemented the first phase of our IPASS initiative Ellucian CRM-Advise, a technology that engages students in learning how to successfully navigate higher education. Based on rules established in-house, the technology alerts advisors when students exhibit behaviors that predict failure, such as non-attendance, not turning in assignments, having a low grade a mid-term, not registering for classes during early registration, etc. Advisors can then intervene and engage students to get them back on track.  

Ellucian CRM-Advise is the first step in building an integrated advising system. This tool provides data on student behavior that can then be acted upon by advisors and other key student support staff. Eventually, faculty will also be able to respond to student data produced through this tool. Ellucian-CRM Advise and our Banner XE upgrade will provide a more effective way for a variety of student services professionals to communicate through a common student profile.

Using CRM Advise and the necessary caseload assignments, advisors are able to target special populations within their caseloads for special advising initiatives. The college is currently focusing on field testing CRM Advise interventions on all first year STEM students. DACC plans to more deeply integrate our structured pathways within advising sessions. The long-range plan is to develop a customized academic plan for each student.
