What Excellent Colleges Do: Lessons from the Field (Spotlight)

The authors of several new publications discuss high impact practices and strategies for advancing the completion agenda that have emerged from Achieving the Dream colleges and Aspen Prize colleges. Some strategies and solutions address the internal world of America's colleges, such as working with leadership or using data, while others address the context within which colleges act—for example, linking to high school college readiness efforts or partnering with other institutions to define student learning outcomes at the discipline level. What all of these strategies have in common is their intentional design to improve the likelihood that students will persist to earn a college credential. A book signing reception immediately following this session will provide additional opportunity to engage with the authors in conversations about their research. The publications include: The Completion Agenda: Practical Approaches for Reaching the Big Goal in the volume: New Directions for Community College by Brad Philliips, et. al., and What Excellent Community Colleges Do by Josh Wyner
