New AspenWSI-ATD Report Details Lessons from A Community College-Workforce Nonprofit Partnership

Partnerships between community colleges and nonprofit workforce organizations can put low-income students and jobseekers on pathways to new careers. The combination of assets and expertise each organization offers can benefit students significantly, increasing the likelihood that their academic and financial needs will be addressed as they pursue their learning journeys.

Working Together and Making a Difference, a report co-published by Aspen Workforce Strategies Initiative and Achieving the Dream, follows the process of launching and expanding a partnership between Virginia Western Community College and Goodwill Industries of the Valleys in Roanoke, VA.  The case study explores the advantages to each organization of acquiring new capabilities through a partnership rather than developing them separately and doesn’t shy away from describing the challenges.
