Chapel Hill, N.C. – Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count, a national initiative to help more community college students succeed, today announced the selection of six Michigan colleges joining the initiative. The initiative has now grown to 84 participating institutions in 15 states. This marks Achieving the Dream’s first expansion into Michigan, made possible through new funding partnerships with the W.K. Kellogg and Kresge foundations.

The colleges are part of the initiative's latest expansion, which has added 24 colleges in eight states, bringing the total number of participating institutions to 82 colleges in 15 states.

INDIANAPOLIS - Lumina Foundation for Education has committed up to $18 million in additional funds over five years to Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count, a multiyear initiative aimed at improving student success at the nation's community colleges. The appropriation, approved unanimously by the Program Policy Committe of Lumina's Board of Directors, brings Lumina's total expected investment in Achieving the Dream to nearly $74 million and extends its commitment to the initiative through 2012.

INDIANAPOLIS - Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count, a national initiative to help more community college students succeed, will expand to 23 new campuses in Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington state. The initiative provides participating colleges with grant money and support to implement strategies designed to help more students - particularly students of color and low-income students - earn degrees, complete certificates or transfer to other institutions to continue their studies.

INDIANAPOLIS - Twenty-seven community colleges in five states each have awarded a $400,000 multiyear grant as participants in Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count, a national initiative that promotes change to improve student success in community colleges. Each college will receive its implementation grant over four years to support institutional change. The grants were awarded by Lumina Foundation for Education.
