Joseph D. Moore Distinguished Professor Emeritus, NC State University
Dr. Baker is the Joseph D. Moore Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at NC State and a Coach for Achieving the Dream. As an Achieving the Dream Coach, Dr. Baker consults with colleges in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia, with a particular interest in North Carolina Community Colleges.
Dr. Baker is also the Director of College Planning Systems, a private consulting organization. Prior to his role with Achieving the Dream, he was named to the Joseph D. Moore Endowed Chair in Community College Leadership at North Carolina State University in August 1992 and remained in that position until his retirement in June 2001. Upon his retirement Dr. Baker received The Order of the Long Leaf Pine , North Carolina’s highest honor. Dr. Baker has also served as Professor of Higher and Community College Education at the University of Texas at Austin.
Educational Background: Dr. Baker holds a liberal arts associates degree from Warren Wilson College; a business degree from Presbyterian College; and holds a master’s in counseling psychology from Shippensburg State University. He is also an educational administration graduate, with a doctor of education degree from Duke University and a master of public administration equivalent degree from the Naval War College.
