Perry Horse is involved in research and preservation of Native American language, culture, music and art and is a Coach for Achieving the Dream. As an Achieving the Dream Coach, Mr. Horse has served in this capacity for seven years. He worked with two first-round Achieving the Dream Colleges, the University of New Mexico-Gallup Branch, and the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in Albuquerque.
Prior to his role with Achieving the Dream, Dr. Horse provided services to foundations, universities, tribal colleges, non-profit organizations, and the National Museum of the American Indian through his consulting business, Perry Horse & Associates. He provided a wide range of services including management assessment, organizational development, board training, planning, and education. Prior to establishing his business Perry served as chief executive officer of the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe and continues his personal avocation in illustration and painting.
Early in his career Dr. Horse worked in Washington, D. C. in the Bureau of Higher Education, Department of HEW. His unit was charged with implementing Title III of the Higher Education Act. Dr. Horse was a program specialist for student services projects known as talent search, upward bound, and special services AKA the Trio Programs. In that capacity he was assigned the role of field representative to universities and non-profit organizations in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
Dr. Horse has extensive experience in the use of human resource training models from the field of industrial and organizational psychology having served as a Member of Laboratory Staff with Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque. He specialized in management development and leadership.
Educational Background: Dr. Horse holds a certificate in commercial studies from Haskell Institute, currently known as Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, KS. He holds an Ed.M. degree in interdisciplinary studies from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Arizona, Tucson.
