Rachel Singer, LCSW
Rachel Singer is the Vice President for Community College Relations and Applied Research at Achieving the Dream, Inc. In this role, Singer is responsible for working with Achieving the Dream college presidents and CEOs to promote the adoption of evidence-based reforms to improve effectiveness, particularly in the area of developmental education. She also plays a vital role in the strategic design and direction of Achieving the Dream’s knowledge development work, incorporating cutting-edge research into all policies and practices, and will direct work with the most successful Achieving the Dream Institutions, particularly Leader Colleges, to refine and enhance their student success efforts. In consultation with investors and staff, she is responsible for designing and overseeing a re-granting program to underwrite college-to-college peer coaching to ensure the creation, implementation, and scaling of successful innovations throughout the national Achieving the Dream Network.
Prior to joining Achieving the Dream, Singer was the Director of Academic Affairs at Kingsborough Community College where she served for over 25 years. Her experience supervising all administrative aspects of Kingsborough’s Opening Doors and Career Focused Learning Communities, serving over 1,000 students each semester, have significantly improved student retention, persistence, and graduation. She has lead training and professional development seminars on how to replicate successful learning communities for faculty and staff in community colleges across the country.
Singer is the co-architect and will remain an active team member and facilitator of Kingsborough's FIPSE grant: The Community College Jigsaw-Putting the Pieces Together. The goal of this project is to improve the retention and graduation rates of community college students by implementing a comprehensive, flexible, and adaptable model for institutional redesign using Kingsborough’s redesign as a model.
Educational Background: Singer holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Mental Health from Kingsborough Community College; a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Social Work from Adelphi University. Additionally, Singer is a clinical licensed social worker in the state of New York.
