DALLAS, TX (February 28, 2012) – Achieving the Dream – a national nonprofit leading the nation’s most comprehensive non-governmental reform network for community college student success in higher education history – named Miami Dade College President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón to the Board of Directors.
“It is with a great deal of pleasure that I can report that the Achieving the Dream Board of Directors unanimously approved Dr. Eduardo J. Templin. “Dr. Padrón – as President of the nation’s largest institution of higher education in America that also enrolls and graduates more minorities than any other institution, and as one of four Managing Partners of Completion by Design – will bring to the Achieving the Dream National Reform Network extraordinary insights and experiences. There is much to be gained by his addition to our Board of Directors.”
An American by choice, Eduardo J. Padrón arrived in the United States as a refugee at the age of 15. “Improving student success and completion is the national imperative and I am so pleased to join such great leaders and innovators on the Achieving the Dream Board of Directors,” said Dr. Padrón.
Achieving the Dream was conceived as a national initiative in 2004 by the Lumina Foundation and seven founding partner organizations. In 2010, with the support of the Founding Investor, the Founding Partners agreed to transition Achieving the Dream from an initiative into a strong, sustainable, independent national nonprofit organization – Achieving the Dream, Inc. An influential and diverse Board of Directors has since been established to lead the work of the new organization, and with the addition of Dr. Padrón, the Achieving the Dream Board of Directors now includes ten executives:
- Leah Meyer Austin, Former Senior Vice President, Lumina Foundation
- Diane Bastian, MBA, Owner, Panera Bread Franchise, Eastern North Carolina and graduate of Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, MI
- Anthony P. Carnevale, Ph.D., Director, Center on Education and the Workforce, Georgetown University
