Revised Student Success Course (SDV 100)

Revised Student Success Course (SDV 100) is NOVA’s student success course covering study skills, time-management, and decision-making. NOVA began to redesign SDV 100 in Fall 2009. The first phase included establishing student learning outcomes to standardize the course across NOVA's six campuses. Data indicated that completion during the first semester positively affected student retention and GPA.

During Fall 2011, a redesign team created a hybrid course that uses a standard textbook and assignments with a significant amount of the coursework graded and managed through Blackboard. Pilot sections began during the 2012–2013 academic year, with all sections offered in the redesigned format in Fall 2013.

Beginning in Fall 2014, completion of SDV 100 within the first year was made mandatory for all first-time students.
