Teaching and Learning Academy

WSCC developed a Teaching and Learning Academy in 2014-15 to train new faculty on assessment, advising, innovative and engaging instruction, and technology.  This year-long required Academy will assist in grooming new faculty to the culture of WSCC.  Participants will also be exposed to sessions on student psychology and present a research project at the end of the first year.  Successful completers move to our Master Teacher Program where they develop an e-portfolio for tenure review.

In its first year, the Academy had 11 completers.  This year 17 faculty members completed the program successfully, which includes badging in advising and as an eProfessor as well as presenting a final research project on a best practice.  A graduation dinner recognizing their achievement was held on Thursday, May 5th, 2016.  These candidates will now move to the two-year Master Teacher Program.  Graduates commented on the commitment the program required but also its benefit, especially in the areas of networking across campus and advising (they are required to work in the Advising Center at least 6 hours.)  This program is led by the Academic Dean and has a Steering Committee of five.
