Professional Development for Advisors

In Fall 2014, 19% of West Kentucky Community and Technical College credential-seeking students held a Health Science Technology (HST) major. Results of a HST survey administered to West KY faculty/staff advisors revealed that roughly 80% of West KY advisors have advised one or more HST majors in the past year, yet only 54% of advisors feel they are effective advisors of HST majors. This intervention involved developing and providing targeted, effective professional development opportunities to improve the effectiveness of HST advising.

The HST Program Coordinator worked with each academic division to ensure faculty advisors were conversant with the requirements of the HST advisee. Professional development was also conducted with the WKCTC Central Advising Council.
