High Impact Focus Areas for New Developmental Students

Muskegon Community College adopted a new policy which took effect for students entering in Fall 2015. We now require behaviors that are likely to lead to their success in college: Students who place into any developmental course(s) must . . .

Attend New Student Orientation before or during their first semester
Meet with a counselor before or during their first semester
Take their developmental course(s) during their first or second semester
Take College Success Seminar during the first or second semester

Staff will track and engage with students who need these interventions through a new Client Relations Management (CRM) software, Advise, which will enable us to send focused and personalized messages to target groups.

Of course, students who apply to the college early enough will be directed into pre-semester New Student Orientation and Counseling/Advising as well as first-semester College Success Seminar and DevEd courses, but the college is not prepared to turn away last-minute applicants.
