Early Alert System

Faculty submit academic status report to the Director of Learning Support Services and an academic advisor, who both contact the student by e-mail and phone to find out what challenges exist where the college may be able to help. •This intervention is offered during the first 10 weeks of the semester.  In addition, mandatory advising has been instituted for students who are on Financial Aid warning so that an Academic Development Plan can be established and documented.

In the past year, we have greatly increased our ability to track students who have been identified by faculty with an Early Alert notification; our task now is to begin to track which of the interventions (tutoring, orientation, meeting with an adviser or the faculty member, etc.) has had the most success, and in what combinations.  We also need to build in a "feedback loop" so that the faculty member is made aware of what interventions the Learning Support Services Staff have implemented, and to allow the faculty to comment back to LSS staff about what progress the student has made since the intervention, if any.

We are considering the implementation of an Early Alert Team, comprised of LSS staff, a member of the faculty, as well as a representative from advising, in an effort to correlate efforts across each of these areas.
