Placement Test Preparation with Focused Advising

PCCUA has adopted a Compass Test PREP Intervention. Students who take the COMPASS and other standardized tests with no preparation do not perform well.  Therefore, PCCUA is providing test preparation for the test to all incoming  students.  After reviewing test taking skills, test formatting, and a general discussion of the consequences of the tests,  students are provided with some test information related to the reading, English, and math subtests.   All students are placed using COMPASS (or ACT equivalent ) scores; therefore, Test Prep is a helpful resource to incomming students.  Entering  students test placement scores showed significant  improvement  when Test PREP was piloted as a retest strategy in the Fall of 2012. The PREP Review includes information about the following skills prior to the admistration of the COMPASS.

This Intervention will be used through the Fall of 2016 and be replaced with an ACCUPLACER review in the Spring of 2016.
