ALP English 100

This implementation of the "Baltimore model" mainstreams students who have placed into developmental English with others who have placed into college level English, at a ratio of 1:2. Students with the developmental requirement meet with the instructor for an extra two hours per week to practice and consolidate their skills. Those who pass the course earn credit for the college-level course and also fulfill their developmental requirement. This saves a full semester that would otherwise be devoted to developmental English.

To place into ALP, students must score in the upper level of developmental placement in English. They will be eligible whether or not they also need developmental reading, provided they score in the upper developmental reading range or higher. Students who require additional work on reading are advised to enroll in Jumpstart Reading prior to or at the same time as ALP.
