Learning Commons

The Learning Commons is separate, comfortably furnished spaces, equipped with computer-assisted learning programs, with quiet rooms for study, group study rooms, and multi-media rooms to support student engagement and learning.  Students receive help, engage in skill-building activities, work with faculty and facilitators, and collaborate with other students in a socially engaging environment.

In addition to improving progression rates from developmental courses to college-level courses, the Learning Commons are designed to:

- reinforce reading and writing processes for students;
- improve student attitudes toward reading, writing and research work;
- provide space necessary for independent and collaborative student work;
- provide reinforcement and practice of critical reading skills;
- encourage student-faculty relationships; and
- encourage interdisciplinary course work.
