New Mathways Project

During spring 2015, the faculty in the developmental math and credit math departments collaborated to create an alternative developmental math pathway.  In the past, our sequence of developmental math classes were designed to prepare students for College Algebra.  In Fall 2015, the College added MATH 0308 which is a developmental class to prepare students to take a non-algebra intensive course such as Statistics or Contemporary Math.

During Fall 2015 and Spring 2016, we had 42 students enrolled in MATH 0308 (Foundations of Statistics) instead of MATH 0304(Intermediate Algebra).  We had an overal success rate of 81%. Enrollment in this class increased to 61 for 2016-2017.  The success rate decrease slightly to 76% but this is still much higher than MATH 0304 which was 55% percent that year.

For 2017-2018, we will start implementing the corequisite model for develomental math.  We plan to develop and pilot this in 2017-2018 for a wider implementaiton in 2018-2019.
