Teaching and Learning Academy

WSCC developed a Teaching and Learning Academy in 2014-15 to train new faculty on the basic competencies of a WSCC instructor: assessment, advising, innovative and engaging instruction, and technology.  This year-long tenure-track Academy assists in grooming new faculty to the culture of WSCC.  Participants present a research project at the end of the first year based upon a best practice, and successful completers move to our Master Teacher Program where they develop an e-portfolio for tenure review, while mentored by senior faculty.  The Master Teacher Program lasts two years.  Thus far, the Academy has had 40 successful completers.  Completers graduate from the Academy badged in advising and as an eprofessor.  They are also required to work in the Advising Center at least 6 hours.  This program is led by the Academic Dean and has a Steering Committee of five.  In summer 2018 we will begin a two- day Academy for adjunct faculty.
