"Navigators" Program for Students

Trident Technical College has worked to remove barriers to completion by redesigning our student “onboarding” process to assign students “Navigators” who will help students understand enrollment requirements, define their academic and career goals, and develop a plan to achieve those goals; the students’ Navigators will then continue to be a resource to advise and assist students during their time at TTC. Through this transformative initiative, we are focusing on relationship building that will enable students to feel closer connections to the college and more fully trust college personnel to assist them during any “crisis points” that may arise in their educational journey.

We have begun this transformation with the assistance of two major grants: Achieving the Dream’s iPASS grant and a Title III grant for our “Pathways” initiative. Through our iPASS grant work, we have employed a Navigator to assist incoming STEM students. We also have adopted the “Navigate” student information and advising software program designed by the Education Advisory Board (EAB) and have begun training college personnel to use this program. In addition, through our Title III grant work, we will employ Navigators to assist students in multiple degree paths and expand the space and the available technology resources in our onboarding “Hub” facility, where students will meet with their assigned Navigators for enrollment, orientation, and advising assistance.
