Orientation is just one component of our First Year Experience (FYE) model, which is designed to prepare all first-time students for success at NOVA. Orientation is now a mandatory requirement for all first-time students. This policy change was the result of thorough evaluation of the initiative, which showed that participation in orientation has a positive impact on a variety of student success outcomes.

At orientation, students learn about college resources, meet with their academic advisor, create an academic plan, and register for classes. The program is facilitated by student leaders, campus administrators, faculty, and staff.

During Student Orientation, Students Will:

  • receive interpretation of Placement Test scores
  • develop an academic goal
  • meet with a first-year advisor
  • create their class schedule and register for courses
  • learn about payment options and Financial Aid
