Angel Sanchez (Plenary)

Angel will earn his Associate’s degree at Valencia’s Honors program in 2014. He was born in Miami and raised in a troubled family of addiction and crime. He turned to gang life, was convicted at 16, and spent 12 years in prison. He moved to Orlando; then, through a homeless waiver, he enrolled at Valencia. Valencia staff members were introduced to Angel when he spoke as a member of the student audience during Dr. Jill Biden’s college visit. He has since made many friends and connections at Valencia and beyond. Angel aspires to be accepted at the University of Chicago, Columbia University, Yale’s Eli Whitney Program, or Georgetown. His compelling story exemplifies the promise and possibility of community colleges.
