Achieving the Dream President and CEO Named an Outstanding Woman in Higher Education by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education

President and CEO, Dr. Karen A. Stout, has been selected by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education as one of the 2018 Outstanding Women in Higher Education. Every year for the past seven years, Diverse recognizes Women’s History Month by saluting women in higher education “who have made a difference in society by tackling some of higher education’s toughest challenges, exhibiting extraordinary leadership skills and making a difference in their respective communities.”

Dr. Stout has led the growth of Achieving the Dream’s national network of community colleges to include new initiatives in a number of areas critical to the colleges’ ability to advance their goals. For example, under her leadership, ATD has expanded the Network to include 32 tribal colleges and universities, positioned ATD as a vital partner in guided pathways work, created a new model around scaling advising redesign, developed “zero textbook” degree initiatives using open education resources (OER), designed non-cognitive wrap around support systems, and placed teaching and learning at the center of institutional change efforts.

“It is an honor to be recognized by Diverse and to be in the company of so many exceptional women who have been working tirelessly to ensure that higher education fulfills its promise of a better life to every student who wants to achieve that goal,” said Dr. Stout.
