Dr. Mei-Yen Ireland Moving on to Gates Foundation

On April 15, Dr. Mei-Yen Ireland, executive director of student supports, will be moving on from her work at Achieving the Dream to join the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as a Program Officer on their Postsecondary Success team. At the Gates Foundation, Mei-Yen will be leading their advising solution area, working closely with us and many of our strategic partners. During her four years at ATD, Mei-Yen led and designed ATD's strategy, thought leadership, and services for redesigning advising and student supports and creating transformative institutional change. She led the Holistic Student Supports team in the development of customized coaching, tools, and resources to support institutions in the design and implementation of a seamless, personalized student experience focused on improving student outcomes.

While we will miss her daily presence on our team, we are thrilled to continue to partner with her in her new role.
Shauna Davis, a full-time ATD Holistic Student Supports coach, will move into the Executive Director role.  Shauna was formerly the executive director of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Student Success Center and Office of Professional Development, providing technical assistance and strategic support for Virginia’s Community Colleges, a system of 23 colleges with 40 campus locations. While at the VCCS, Shauna worked collaboratively with colleges to scale guided pathways reforms, understand loss and momentum points, implement technology, support change leadership, and evaluate advising and business processes to improve operations and remove systemic barriers to student success. Her close work with Mei-Yen and the ATD HSS team will ensure a smooth transition.

In addition, Dr. Laurie Fladd, also a full-time ATD Holistic Student Supports coach, will become Director of Holistic Student Supports, with a focus on leading the coaching and implementation components of this service. Laurie has served primarily in Science and Mathematics as an instructor, department head, and associate dean. Most recently, she served Trident Technical College as the Director of Academic Advising and the project director of Trident’s iPASS grant with ATD. As project director Laurie and her team worked across academic affairs and student services to transform the student onboarding and advising experience.
