Dr. Karen A. Stout, president & CEO, will participate in the "Tapping Latino Talent" event in Washington, D.C., on May, 7, hosted by the College Promise Campaign and Excelencia.

Odessa College Commencement

Dr. Karen A. Stout will be delivering the commencement speech at Odessa College, an ATD Network college and winner of the 2018 Leah Meyer Austin Award.

Creative Commons Summit

Dr. Richard Sebastian , director of OER degree initiative, and Dr. Ruanda Garth-McCullough, associate director of teaching and learning, will be in Portugal for the Creative Commons Summit and will be presenting on OER coaching.

Establishing a Global Open Ed Coaching Network

Friday, May 10th 1:15pm – 2:10 p.m.

This is a participatory panel session to explore the establishment of Global Open Education Coaching Network to assist governments, systems, and local educational organizations in successfully implementing open education policies and practices using an “open coaching” approach. A coaching network could provide policy advocacy, connect governments and institutions with local coaching experts, collect and share resources and best practices, and nurture a global community committed to actively furthering the cause of open education.

Network Visits

Dr. Laurie Fladd, director of holistic student supports, is conducting an Opportunity Assessment for schools in Arkansas.

Shauna Davis, executive director of holistic student supports, is participating in the Advising Solution Network Meeting on May 8th.

Shauna Davis, and Julia Lawton, director of holistic student supports, are in Oregon to facilitate a Holistic Student Supports workshop with the Oregon Student Success Center.

Laurie Heacock, senior advisor, data and analytics, is conducting a coaching site visit in Pennsylvania.

Susan Mayer, chief learning officer, is on a coaching visit in Connecticut.

ATD Teaching & Learning Summit: May 30 – June 1, 2019

Building a Culture of Teaching Excellence for Student Success

ATD’s new Teaching & Learning Summit will strengthen the role of Centers for Teaching and Learning and empower faculty as leaders in addressing issues of student access, achievement, persistence, completion, and equity in teaching and learning. Teams composed of faculty members, academic affairs administrators, faculty developers and Center for Teaching & Learning directors will engage with experts in teaching and learning, coaches, and practitioners from ATD colleges as they devise action plans to bolster their institution’s teaching and learning capacity and expand the use of evidence-based classroom techniques. The Summit program will feature multiple tracks, including one on implementation of Open Educational Resources (OER) that will showcase the role of OER in fostering open pedagogy and how best to integrate the use of OER in broader institutional student success strategies.
