Under Diane’s leadership, SMC made a dramatic shift in culture from that of an enrollment-driven institution to a culture of empowerment and of continuous quality improvement anchored in the college goals of quality, student success, and service to the community. During her tenure in this role, SMC experienced tremendous success in enrollment, student success, faculty and staff morale along with significant additions to and improvement in college facilities. This included the creation of streamlined, technology enhanced student services; implementation of new curricula and strategies for developmental students and gatekeeper courses; and academic “Centers of Excellence” for key occupational programs that garnered community financial support.  Among the evidence of the dramatic improvement in student success were the NCCBP rankings of the College in the top 5% of the nation in student course success and the top 1% of the nation in student transfer success.
