Dr. Joanne Bashford

Higher Education Services Consultant 

Dr. Joanne Bashford currently serves as a Higher Education Services Consultant and Leadership Coach for Achieving the Dream. She is passionate about helping all students have the opportunity to enroll, and most importantly, to succeed in their higher educational endeavors. 

Joanne’s career in community colleges spans 25 years and includes serving as the President of Miami Dade College's InterAmerican Campus, a very diverse campus of 19,000 students located in historic Little Havana, until retiring in 2017. In this role, she had responsibility for the College’s School of Education with programs ranging from certificates to bachelor’s degrees, and the College’s Learning Resources departments which included libraries, computer courtyards, and many academic support services. Prior to this role, Joanne served as Associate Vice President for Developmental Education and Student Success at Broward College, Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness at Miami Dade College, and additional positions in institutional research and college testing and evaluation. She initially joined ATD as a Data Coach in 2005 and worked with colleges in Ohio, Texas, and Illinois before moving into the role of Leadership Coach.

In her consulting work, Joanne has facilitated workshops, and assisted colleges in areas such as strategic planning, research and evaluation planning, grant development, and learning outcomes assessment. She has conducted environmental scans and SWOT analyses, developed curriculum, contributed to publications on developmental education practices and effective use of data, and served on several accreditation on-site teams.

Joanne developed strong ties with the community over the years including serving as Vice-Chair of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, serving on the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce’s Business & Governmental Affairs Committee, collaborating with the Historic Trust for National Preservation on a Master Plan for the Little Havana community, and serving on the Boards of Viernes Culturales and Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center.

Joanne holds a doctorate in education from Florida International University, a M.Ed. in education from the University of Pittsburgh, and a B.A. in psychology from the University of Florida.
