Dr. Devora Shamah

Dr. Devora Shamah is Director of Research, with a focus on ATD’s Gateway to College initiative. She joined the Gateway to College Research and Evaluation Team in 2009, where she led the ongoing analysis as part of the organization’s continuous improvement work. She provides training to program partners in data collection, using data to support student success, and identity based motivation. Her research and evaluation projects focus on student support, positive youth development, and program improvement.

Dr. Shamah’s training is in Human Development. She has conducted research on educational, career, and family aspirations; sense of purpose; youth in rural communities; and identity development in adolescents. Prior to her work at Gateway to College, she taught at an alternative middle school. 

Dr. Shamah holds a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies from Oregon State University, a master’s in teaching from University of Chicago, and a B.A. in Communications from U.C.San Diego.
