Dr. John Brockman

John Brockman retired as president of Coastal Bend College in Beeville, Texas, where he served for 34 years as an Instructor, Division Chair, and Vice-President of Instruction prior to his presidency. Coastal Bend College became a Round One Achieving the Dream College during his tenure as President and a Leader College following his retirement.

John became a coach for Achieving the Dream Coach in 2007, consulting in three states: Arkansas, Georgia, and Texas and at four colleges: the College of the Ouachitas, Augusta Technical College, Central Georgia Technical College, and Southwest Texas Junior College.

John served as an officer of several state and regional academic and administrative organizations as well as many local community and civic ones. He was a Commissioner on the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and he served on or chaired several reaffirmation of accreditation committees for twenty years. He also brought the college into the Rural Community College Alliance and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. During his tenure the college procured several Title V Grants and expanded the number of TRIO Grants.

Educational Background: John earned a Ph.D. in from the University of Texas; a MA from Texas A&M University; and a B.A. in History from Southwestern University. While serving as president of the Student Senate at Southwestern, he facilitated the passage of a resolution urging the desegregation of the university. Southwestern integrated the following year.
