Outcomes of Pell Grant Recipient

Past research has found that low-income students are often at-risk for lower levels of postsecondary education success than students who are not low-income. Using Pell grant receipt as an indicator of income level, this issue of Data Notes examines whether this general finding holds true at Achieving the Dream colleges. Pell grant recipients’ success rates were measure against non-recipients: persistence, course completion rates, college transfer/completion rates, and completion rates of developmental and gateway courses were analyzed to determine if differences existed in the outcomes of recipients compared with non-recipients. This report’s findings challenge traditional thought, and demonstrate that Pell grant recipients have higher success rates on some of the measures than non-recipients.
