A Pathway to College Readiness and Completion: The Dual Credit Program at South Texas College

DREAM, Wednesday February 6, 2013
Santa Monica, 4th Floor

Participants will examine student data to discover how the dual enrollment program at South Texas College (STC) impacted the success rate (academic performance, retention, and graduation rate) of dually enrolled high school students who transfer to the regional four-year university. The workshop will describe the process that STC has used to develop partnerships with 21 school districts to offer over 1,000 dual credit classes. STC’s dual enrollment program has grown from 8 students in 1997 to over 11,500 students, and ranks top in the nation by supporting 15 Early College High Schools. The program includes innovative STEM and CTE academies that accelerate high school/college completion and also a successful drop-out recovery component that gets non-completer high school students back on track and into a college career pathway. Participants will learn how dual credit programs can be utilized to positively impact college readiness rates of high school graduates.
